The bike is as good as we hoped and, unusually, has reached the production stage with only minor changes from the prototype unveiled at Motorcycle Live, NEC, last year. The new chassis, coupled with the engine upgrades, prompted our tester – Bruce Wilson – to describe the Continental GT as “the most refined Enfield I’ve ridden”.
The cafe racer scene continues to grow at an inexorable pace. There was even a special show from such bikes at Sturgis this past month – despite the Black Hills biker week being ancestral home to the American chopper!
Closer to home, the Brackley Festival of Motorcycling hosted a cafe racer section for the first time. And now there’s the most lavish motorcycle book in years called, simply The Ride, crammed full of the world’s most wonderful cafe racers, street trackers, and bobbers you can imagine.
To contribute to the cause, we’ve also thrown half a dozen of Britain’s best in this issue – but we’ve not forgotten conventional classics either such as the Series A Rapide Vincent test, a G3L Matchless restoration – and Le Mans v 900SS test that offers a rather different conclusion than might be obvious, plus a Velocette Venom maintenance guide.
