Well, what can I say, other than a huge thank you? The Carole Nash CBG Winter Classic, at Newark Showground, was an amazing success, especially as it was the first ever show and first time at the venue.

Isn’t it annoying when you fail to see what’s straight in your face. A few years ago I stopped my Shooting Star by the local chip van only to have it refuse to start on my return to it a few minutes later.

The Carole Nash 18th Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show was without doubt another terrific success. Those who were present on the Saturday will not need me to tell them that it was a record attendance.

There’s a certain truth in the grumbles we regularly hear that this country of ours manufactures nothing any more.

Oooh I was feeling smug the other week. For the first time in a long time I had both my complete bikes running well and the old Norton was heading in the right direction, having finally had someone sort out the poor job (and appalling service) I’d received from a so-called Norton single cylinder engine specialist.

The internet auction site. Oh how I wish I had been canny, brave and bright enough to think of it. I wouldn’t be writing this now if I had, that’s for sure!

You’ll see that there’s a bit of a rotary theme in this month’s issue. We have a couple of ex ministry Nortons, which have been restored in a very personal way, there’s the original fire breathing race bike, a review of Suzuki’s ‘plumber’s nightmare’ and Jim Scaysbrook has taken a look at the history of the rotary valve – so there’s as much round and round as there is up and down.

I was talking recently to a pal who owns a Vincent Comet. Of course, what he really wants is a Black Shadow but can’t afford the going rate, so has settled for the single.

It was pure coincidence that my right honourable colleague, the member for Cornwall, penned his piece, at the tail end of this issue, about the isolation enjoyed whilst riding a motorcycle, for the subject had been on my mind too of late.
