Clarky’s Corner - August 2011

The internet auction site. Oh how I wish I had been canny, brave and bright enough to think of it. I wouldn’t be writing this now if I had, that’s for sure!
Without doubt it’s an amazing marketplace where, at the touch of a button, one can track down almost anything, within reason. I’ve noticed though that auction fever can take over and sometimes prices for second-hand goods can exceed that of new, so caution and self discipline have to be imposed. However, I see no logic in our classic magazines extolling its virtues and advocating its use when, after all, it is to the detriment of the adverts within said magazine. If everyone chose to do their classic motorcycle shopping on an internet auction site, then there would be no magazine adverts and gone would be one reason to buy it. Though, having said all that, I do understand why people do use it so widely. Of course, much depends on whether you are selling or buying, and without doubt it’s here to stay, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject.
