Clarky’s Corner - October 2011
By: Web Editor
Oooh I was feeling smug the other week. For the first time in a long time I had both my complete bikes running well and the old Norton was heading in the right direction, having finally had someone sort out the poor job (and appalling service) I’d received from a so-called Norton single cylinder engine specialist.
Things were looking good for a change, so seeing as the sun was shining, I reckoned a cruise out was in order. About five miles from home bike one began to cough and splutter, so I returned home. Swapping to bike two I retraced my steps only for this one to also splutter to a stop about a mile further on. It did restart and I turned for home, but it died again about a mile on and continued to do this – on ever shortening distances – until it refused to start at all and I had to ditch it and thumb a lift home. Returning an hour or so later it fired up perfectly – diagnosis, duff coil. Diagnosis bike one, a piece of what looks like rust from the fuel tank. That’ll teach me to feel smug next time!
