HC Cecil, Ledbury
By: Web Editor
I was interested in your article on the Mountain Cub in the June CBG and thought the owner might be interested in the attached photo.
I used to pass the premises of HC Cecil in Ledbury (which irrationally always seemed to me to be an unlikely name for a motorcycle dealer), in the late 60s when, on my daily commute from Hereford to college, in Pershore, on my 1936 AJS. It was not my local ‘bike shop’ though and I only stopped there for emergency purchases.
For such a small town it was very spacious, with an attached showroom and the usual yard at the back. The owner (not sure if he was the eponymous Mr Cecil) was always very helpful and, I believe, a Yorkshireman like Dave Armitage.
The property changed hands in the mid-70s and became a KTM dealership, closing along with that company’s demise.
Like so many local dealers, it has now been forgotten except by old boys like me, and has been converted to quite a nice town house.
Keep up the good work.
