Scrapbook Series IV – AJS & Matchless
By: Web Editor
Following the success of the previous numbers in the Mortons Scrapbook Series, the ever enthusiastic James Robinson, editor of The Classic MotorCycle, has delved into the archive for a fourth edition – this time it’s AJS and Matchless.
On sale now, it documents the history of AJS -Matchless over 10 chapters, including the two companies’ individual formations, the 1920s, before and after the Collier family (Matchless) bought out the Stevens brothers, (AJS) to create Associated Motor Cycles.
Each chapter is introduced with a focus on key events, models and happenings, with sales literature, contemporary road tests and press reports, plus evocative images, many previously unseen.
Young Robbo, has meticulously researched his subject matter, allowing the enthusiast to wallow in nostalgia. He said: “The AJS and Matchless Scrapbook celebrates two great names, from the Big Port to the G50, the Model X to the Stormer.”
The book also features motorcycle achievements of men such as Les Graham, Gordon Jackson, Peter Williams and Walter Rusk. This is primarily a picture book but as the ones previous, it’s sure to provide hours of enjoyment.
The AJS & Matchless Scrapbook is on sale at WH Smith or direct from Mortons Media Group for £7.99. To pre-order call: 01507 529529 or visit: www.mortonsbooks.co.uk
