THE BRITISH ISLES’ most northerly classic vehicle show is coming. The Shetland Classic Motor Show is a biannual event and is held this year on June 2/3, with other classic events taking place around the show date.

Shetland has an ever-growing number of classic vehicles, collected and lovingly restored by their enthusiastic owners. The results of their efforts are on display in this two-day event, held at the Clickimin Centre in Lerwick.

The show has grown steadily over the years and features a remarkably wide variety of motor vehicles. Some of them make their way to Shetland from all over the United Kingdom and, occasionally, farther afield. The display typically includes more than 180 classic cars and more than 160 motorcycles. A classic foy (a Shetland party) is organised for visitors, who dance the night away to Shetland music and enjoy a light traditional supper and refreshments.

The organisers have arranged a deal with Northlink Ferries who run services to Shetland from Aberdeen or by a shorter hop from Scrabster near Thurso to Stromness on Orkney, before departing from Kirkwall to Lerwick.
